About the technology 3nine’s technology is based on the principal of centrifugal separation of liquids using rotating disc stacks. An invention that is over 200 years old
Based on this invention, 3nine’s engineers, working in the area of centrifugal separation, developed a technology for removing liquid particles or combinations of liquid particles and solid particles from gases and aerosols. Over the past few years, we have been involved in 40% of all global patents in this area.
How does it work? The technology consists of a rotor with several lamellas attached to it. We call it a disc stack. The rotation of the disk stack, operated by a motor, sucks out the polluted air from the machine tool into the separator. Inside the disk stack, the radial centrifugal force on the particles causes them to move relative to the air towards the conical discs.
The particles start to coalesce with each other on the discs, creating larger and heavier particles. The larger they get, the faster they move towards the periphery of the disc stack, from where they are thrown onto the inner wall of the separator.
The separated liquid flows downwards and is collected in a channel from where it is led back to the machine tool. The purified air is led upwards to the air outlet.
To ensure that the rotor maintains its performance in applications with a lot of solid particles, 3nine machines can be equipped with a 3nine patented washing solution called CIP (Cleaning in Place).
As shown in the left graph, 3nine’s technology can separate 100% of the particles down to 1µ. but will also take a percentage of the smaller particles. For the particles that are not separated inside the machine we use an HEPA-filter as an end filter, so that the air that comes out in the workshop is 100% clean. For normal applications, which are not so smoky, this filter rarely needs to be changed.
The rotor inside 3nine’s oil mist collectors are designed to separate 99.9% of all particles down to 1 µ, but will also separate a percentage of even smaller particles. We can if necessary equip our products with a high quality H13 HEPA-filter which provides 99.997% purified air coming out of our oil mist collector. However thanks to the high separation efficiency inside 3nine’s rotor, the HEPA-filter rarely needs changing - on average every 2-4 years
